Why wait until marriage to have sex? What’s the big deal? The really big deal is that it can destroy your life. Read these two short stories about fire to get a better picture of what sex outside of marriage can do.
Story 1 ~ You are coming home from school on a cold afternoon and you walk in your house to the warmth of a fire in the fireplace. You feel warm and cozy and can‘t wait to get closer to warm your hands. As you sit by the fire you unwind you begin to relax from a hard day at school. You talk with your parents about your day, drink hot chocolate and listen to the crackle of the fire in the comfort of your own home. You continue to feel safe as you nestle by the fire. AWESOME!!!
Story 2 ~ You are coming home from school on a cold afternoon and you notice a fire is burning on the hill beside your house! You drop your backpack and start screaming for help. Your heart is pounding and a look of terror is on your face. The fire is blazing down the hill just yards from your home. OH, NO!!!
The Point~ Ok . . . These two stories about fire bring completely different thoughts to your mind and feelings to your heart. You see, fire is really nice and warm. It's pretty to look at and great for relaxing on a cold day, WHEN IT IS IN THE FIREPLACE. However, when a fire is not in the fireplace and is about to destroy your house, the fire isn’t so pretty and enjoyable. It is the same way with Sex. Sex is great when it is enjoyed by married couples. God designed sex for this purpose. In the church setting we can look together at scripture and see how God plans to write our love story. In the school setting we can talk about STD’s and see how they are making life terrible for many teens and college students. We also look at visuals and stories to see how knowing the truth can bring freedom. We also see how important it is to have goals for our dating life. Abstinence until marriage offers the prize! With sex outside of marriage there is no prize.
Choosing to be Abstinent until marriage has many benefits. Like . . .
- Confidence and self-respect
- Setting goals and remaining true to those goals can help you feel good about yourself.
- Choosing abstinence also shows respect for yourself and others.
- It shows that you have high moral standards - family and spiritual values.
- Choosing to be Abstinent brings peace of mind when you know you can honor your limits and the person you are dating. You can relax and have fun, instead of wondering where the date is heading.
- You know that your boyfriend or girlfriend is not just interested in your body.
- Enjoy real conversations, thoughts, feeling, goals, future desires and good times!!!
- You will come to understand the importance of a lifetime partner.
- You will start to realize character traits you want in your mate.
- Time to develop yourself - friends, school, hobbies and sports, developing a since of value.
Saying “no” is not easy unless you have a plan already in place. DO YOU HAVE A PLAN?

Is A Sexual Experience Worth Your Health . . ? Your LIFE . . ?
One in five Americans 12 and older has genital herpes. It's the most common infection caused by the herpes simplex virus. You can get it from oral, anal or vaginal sex. Most people who contract genital herpes don't know they're infected but they can still pass it on to others during sex. When symptoms are present, they often include painful outbreak, or sores in the genital area and burning while urinating. If you experience a painful outbreak, you're almost sure to have more in the future. Even though medication can help treat the symptoms, there is no cure for genital herpes. The best way to avoid getting it is to abstain from sexual activity until marriage and the remaining faithful to your spouse for life.
One of the things that puts you at greatest risk for STDs is having sex with more than one person over the course of your lifetime. The more people you have sex with, the more likely you are to get an STD. And the more likely you are to have regrets in the future. In addition to the physical consequences of STDs, having sex with more than one person puts you at greater risk for serious emotional consequences. Unwanted memories can devastate healthy relationships. Don't you want a relationship that lasts with the one who's going to be there for you? until death do you part?? Most guys and girls want to marry someone that has decided sex is worth saving for marriage.
